Mulla’s Cards

Mulla Nasrudine stories are so fun because they have a punchline that shows that reality can't go in two directions at one. Is the dog smart or is the dog dumb? Is our hope for spirituality helping us or stopping us? Can you be sent to the doctor by the person who is too stupid to send you to the doctor?

They are created to show that our minds can do tricks on us. Ultimately, hopefully, they are showing us that there is something beyond the logical mind. This is where we are able so see truth. Buddhists call it Tat Sat.
Is the dog smart or is the dog dumb? Depends on your perspective... and that's what Mulla Nasrudine stories are always teaching.

Stories about Mulla Nasrudine

Stories about Mulla Nasrudine are to make you go beyond your logical brain, where everything tries to make sense, and put that little “stop” to it… where you can see nothing.

Mulla’s Ticket

In this story Mulla is afraid to look in the most logical spot for his train ticket... because if it's not there all hope is lost. This is showing us one of the ways we undo ourselves. We are afraid of the most obvious thing. And yet, that's who we are.

Talking About Mulla’s Ticket

This is such a telling tale about how most of us conduct our spiritual searches. We are searching everywhere except for the place of "I am."

Going in two directions

You can't go in two directions at the same time. You'd think that would be obvious, and yet we constantly forget it.

The Chemist

Can the person who is too stupid to tell us to go to the doctor able to tell us to go to the doctor? Again a story of going in two directions at the same time.

Mulla’s Stories Teach Enlightenment

Mulla Nasrudine stories, and Zen stories, are such great enlightenment teachings because they are trying to point out the blindingly obvious. We believe enlightenment is this mysterious, magical thing. What if it was something very very simple?
